HARTFORD - The No. 1 UConn women's basketball team will play host to Temple on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for the team's last XL Center game of the regular season. Wednesday's tip is a 7 p.m. and the game will be televised regionally on SNY.
Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item prior to Wednesday's 7 p.m. matchup. All fans who donate a non-perishable food item near the entrances to the XL Center will be entered to win an autographed, Geno Auriemma basketball and four tickets to a future game. Food donations will benefit Hands On Hartford--a Foodshare partner serving our hungry neighbors here in Greater Hartford.
UConn (26-0, 13-0 The American) squeaked out its 101st-straight win at Tulane on Saturday. The Green Wave held the Huskies to its lowest point total all season but UConn was able to escape Tulane in the end 63-60.
Sophomore forward Napheesa Collier (O'Fallon, Mo.) finished two points shy of her career-high with 26 points, shooting 7-9 from the floor and 11-12 from the charity stripe. She also brought down 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year. Junior Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) led the squad in rebounding with 14, two boards short of her career-best.
Temple (21-5, 11-2 The American) has won its last five consecutive games since its last loss to UConn on February 1. The Huskies and the Owls met earlier this month at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia where UConn walked away with a 97-69 victory. UConn is 8-2 all-time against Temple and has won eight-straight against the Owls.
The Owls are currently second in the American Athletic Conference standings, behind the Huskies. Most recently, Temple defeated USF 77-71 on the road to overtake the No. 2 spot in the league.
UConn's senior day is set for Saturday, Feb. 25 against Memphis at Gampel Pavilion. The two senior Huskies will be honored prior to the 4:30 p.m. tip-off.
