PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Third time’s a charm for freshman guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
The rookie averaged 14.5 points per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the field, including going 6-of-11 from long-range, in a 2-0 week for the No. 1 University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.
On her way to earning her third conference honor this season, Samuelson started the week with a 10-point, three-assist, three-steal effort in the Huskies’ win over Cincinnati on Wednesday. She followed that up with 19 points, five assists and five rebounds at East Carolina on Saturday evening. Samuelson was 5-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc, in 27-minutes of action. Her 19 points was only two points shy of a season high and her four three-point field goals tied a season best.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 24 when they take on SMU in Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be televised on SNY.
