STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team continues conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 24 when it hosts SMU in Gampel Pavilion. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.

No. 1 UConn beats SMU 90-37, runs winning streak to 55
Breanna Stewart had 15 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks to help No. 1 UConn extended its winning streak to 55 games, the third-longest in NCAA Division I women's basketball history, with a 90-37 victory over SMU on Saturday.

UConn (26-0, 15-0 The American) topped East Carolina, 84-41, on Saturday. Senior Breanna Stewart (North Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded her 36th career double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds), while redshirt-sophomore Natalie Butler (Fairfax Station, Va.) added 11 points to the mix. Rookie Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday, put up 19 points, including four three-pointers, against the Pirates.

With eight blocks against ECU, Stewart moved past Kara Wolters to claim second on UConn’s all-time blocks list with 377 rejections.

The Huskies and Mustangs met in Dallas on Jan. 23 when Connecticut ran away with a 90-37 win behind 19 points, six assists and six steals from senior Moriah Jefferson (Glenn Heights, Texas). Wednesday’s outing will mark the sixth-ever meeting between the two schools. UConn is 5-0 in the all-time series against SMU and has won by an average margin of 51 points.

Connecticut has won its last 103 games versus unranked opponents, dating back to 2012. Since the 1993-94 season, the Huskies boast an incredible 558-9 (.984) record against unranked foes, including a current stretch of 280 wins in 281 such contests.



The Mustangs have dropped three of their last five games and have a 7-8 record in the conference. Redshirt-sophomore McKenzie Adams leads SMU and is 11th in the conference with 13.6 points per game.
