STORRS, Conn. – Junior guard Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ont.) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization Thursday.
This marks the first time in her career that Nurse has made the Academic All-America team, after earning Academic All-District the past two consecutive seasons. She is the eighth different Husky player to earn the prestigious accolade. In total, UConn players have earned 13 nods to the Academic All-America squad.
The Hamilton, Ontario native boasts a 3.44 GPA as a liberal arts and sciences major. Nurse is one of seven juniors among the group of 15 honorees to receive the recognition.
On the court, Nurse is averaging 12.8 points per game and ranks third on the team and fifth in the conference in assists per outing (4.2). She scored a career-high 33 points this season against DePaul on Dec. 1, 2016. Nurse became the 42nd member of UConn’s 1,000-point club after recording 15 points at East Carolina on Jan. 24.
UConn reached another historic NCAA milestone, recording its 100th-consecutive win against No. 6/6 South Carolina 66-55 on Feb. 13. Nurse was one of two Huskies to play in all 100 games, but has since been out due to injury.
