STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team celebrated its 11th national championship on Monday evening with a reception at the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center in Storrs. The event, which was organized by the UConn Alumni Association, was sold out and attended by over 500 fans.
Fans were treated to a tour of the beautiful Werth Center, which was followed by a social hour with the players and coaching staff.
Associate head coach Chris Dailey stood in head coach Geno Auriemma, who was under the weather, and gave a recap of the season, introduced players and staff and cracked several jokes along the way. Representatives of the Atlanta Tip-Off Club were on hand to present Breanna Stewart with the Naismith Trophy while representatives of the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States were on hand to present Stewart with the Sullivan Award.
Director of athletics David Benedict closed the evening with a thank you to everyone in attendance and put another successful season in the books.
