    STORRS, Conn. -Incoming University of Connecticut women's basketball team freshman guard Saniya Chong has been honored as the 2012-13 National Player of the Year by Parade Magazine as announced by the publication on Friday, May 17. Chong is the third-consecutive Parade Magazine Player of the Year to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Huskies.

    Chong beat out finalists Rebekah Dahlman, Diamond Deshields, Kianna Holland, and Tori Jankoska to claim the prestigious honor.

    Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis  earned National Player of the Year honors from Parade Magazine during the last two seasons.

    Last season, Chong averaged 34.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game en route to leading Ossining High School to its first State Championship.

    Chong will join the Huskies for the 2013-14 season.
