BELGRADE, Serbia -
University of Connecticut senior Tina Charles (Jamaica, N.Y.) posted a game-high 17 points, while shooting 8-of-10 from the field, to lead the 2009 USA World University Games Team to an 84-50 win over Serbia on Friday afternoon.

Team USA (3-0) closes out the preliminary round a perfect 3-0 and won those three contests by an average of 51.0 ppg. The USA squad will begin second round play as Group A's No. 1 seed, and will open against the No. 2 seed from Group D Poland (2-1), at 11:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday, July 5.

UConn's sophomore Tiffany Hayes (Lakeland, Fla.) also contributed six points, three rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal in Friday's 35-point win over Serbia.

Charles added five rebounds and a steal to her 17 points-effort, while seeing 21 minutes of action.

UConn rising junior Maya Moore (Lawrenceville, Ga.) sat out for the third straight game with knee discomfort. She continues to be listed day-to-day.
