Women's Basketball Ranked No. 1 in Athlon Preseason Poll

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team will enter the 2009-10 season just as it finished its previous campaign, according to the 2009-10 Athlon Women's College Basketball Preseason Poll, which has the Huskies slotted at No. 1.

The rest of the Athlton Preseason Top-10 features: Stanford, Ohio State, Duke, Michigan State, Texas, Xavier, Baylor, Georgia Tech and North Carolina.

In addition, a pair of UConn plauyers were selected to the five-player Athlon Preseason All-America Team. Reigning National Player of the Year Maya Moore (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and 2009 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Tina Charles (Jamaica, N.Y.) were selected to the squad, joining Stanford's Jayne Appel, Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley and Virginia's Monica Wright.

The Huskies open up the preseason on Thursday, Nov. 5 vs. the College of Saint Rose at Gampel Pavilion.
