Junior Stefanie Dolson was recently named to the prestigious Wade Watch list for the 2012-2013 season for her performance on the court. However, the honor does not go to Dolson's head. "I have to live up to that and prove I deserve to be on that list," said Dolson. "People saw something in me, the potential to be the best." Now, Dolson has an entire season to prove they were right.
When asked what her goals are for the upcoming season, Dolson confidently replied, "to win a National Championship. That is the expectation this team has built."
The Huskies have indeed raised standards, winning two National Championships in the last four years alone and have appeared in the Final Four every year, for the last five years.
As a junior, Dolson now sees herself as one of the leaders on the team. "Bria [Hartley], Kelly [Faris], and Caroline [Doty] really lead by example. I try to keep spirits up and keep everyone having fun. I have a good sense of how to talk to people if they need help," said Dolson.
She is the fun-loving member of the team and rarely seen without a smile on her face. "I have a tattoo that says 'Laugh' because I always like to be in a good mood. Life is too short not to be."
Although the team has been in off-season mode and has not been together for a number of months, they have worked hard all summer to stay in basketball shape. "The team has workouts together for about a month before we all go home for the summer. It is really good for the freshmen to show them the ropes and be more successful as a team," said Dolson.
Dolson feels this off-season training has made the team very cohesive and will set them up for success. "I am more excited for this season than the last two." That is a lot coming from a player who halfway through her college career has two Final Four appearances, among other accolades, to her name.
When not on the court, Dolson has a passion for cooking and crafting. "I have always enjoyed cooking but I recently really got into it. I am always making something different. And you should see my room it's decorated with all things I made like jewelry holders and little things."
There are plans for a follow up video to the team's popular "Call Me, Maybe" YouTube video. "It's crazy we have already gotten requests of songs to do. Caroline [Doty] and I are brainstorming of what to do and will probably put something out closer to the start of the season."
Dolson has aspirations of continuing in basketball and possibly doing commentary work upon graduation, but for the time being she is focused on the upcoming season.
