Last week, the Huskies were unanimously selected to win the conference behind 100 points and 10 first-place votes in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Junior Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ont.) was garnered Preseason Player of the Year for the first time of her career. In addition to Nurse, classmate Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) and sophomores Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Napheesa Collier (O’Fallon, Mo.) all earned Preseason All-Conference honors.

Hall of Fame Head Coach Geno Auriemma enters his 32nd season with the Huskies after posting his sixth perfect season in 2015-16. Auriemma has won a major National Coach of the Year honor in nine separate seasons and has been deemed the conference Coach of the Year 12 times, including the 2015-16 honor.

Last season, IUP finished 21-9 overall and advanced to the NCAA Divison II Atlantic Regional Championships where the Crimson Hawks dropped a 91-72 decision to Virginia Union.

The 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference runners-up, the Crimson Hawks were picked to finish second in the PSAC West Preseason Coaches’ Poll. IUP head coach Tom McConnell enters his third season at the helm of the Crimson Hawks. In his first season in 2014-15, IUP hoisted its first PSAC West Banner since 2008 after going 20-2 in conference play.
