STORRS, Conn. - For the 12th time in program history, the University of Connecticut women's basketball team will begin its season as the top team in the nation after earning the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Top-25 preseason poll, which was released on Thursday morning. The Huskies were a unanimous selection after garnering all 32 first-place votes.
This marks the fourth time in five years the Huskies have been chosen by the national media panel to lead the preseason poll, with its last diction coming prior to the 2015-16 season.
UConn has also opened the season as the top-ranked team in the AP Poll in 1995-96, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2003-04, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2013-14 and 2014-15. With its 12th No. 1 ranking, UConn ties Tennessee for the most such appearances in women's AP Poll history.

For the upcoming 2017-18 season, the American Athletic Conference picked head coach Geno Auriemma's Huskies as the unanimous preseason conference favorites. UConn received 121 points and 11 first-place votes in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
UConn will look to build off its impressive 36-1 season that included an NCAA record 10th straight trip to the Final Four, a NCAA Regional Final Championship and both The American Regular Season and Tournament titles.
The Huskies will conclude the exhibition portion of its schedule on Sunday, November 5 when the team welcomes Ashland to Gampel Pavilion. Tip is set for 1 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on UConnHuskies.com.
