Women's Hoops Plays Defending NCAA Division II Champs Sunday

The top-ranked University of Connecticut women’s basketball team will round out the exhibition portion of its schedule when the Huskies square-off against Ashland on Sunday, November 5 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on

Ashland suffered one fewer loss than UConn last year, finishing 36-0 and defeating Virginia Union by a 93-77 score in the Division II National Championship Game. 

Fans are encouraged to arrive early as all 13 members of the squad will be introduced and Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson will be honored for joining UConn’s 1,000-point club prior to tip.

The Huskies were recently tabbed as the top-ranked team by the Associated Press in its preseason poll.  2017-18 marks the 12th time UConn has earned the No. 1 ranking in the AP Preseason Poll.



UConn defeated Fort Hays State in its first exhibition tune-up on Wednesday, November 1.  Senior guard Kia Nurse scored 19 points and was 7-10 from the field while Collier added 15 points and nine rebounds in 26-minutes of action. 

Connecticut will open the 2017-18 regular season on Sunday, November 12 when the team travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on No. 10 Stanford.  Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN.
