UConn ousted Division II Indian University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Tuesday in its first preseason game of the year at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. Sophomore Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Huskies with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists, followed by junior Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) with 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.

As a team, the Huskies shot 61.4 percent from the field against IUP and held the Crimson Hawks to a 32.6 shooting percentage. UConn went on a 19-0 run, spanning five minutes, to end the half with a 68-24 advantage.

The Huskies were picked No. 3 in the nation in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll. This marked the first time in three years that the Huskies were not ranked No. 1 in the AP poll, coming in just behind Notre Dame and Baylor. However, UConn earned the No. 1 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Pace will open its 2016-17 slate with the exhibition in Hartford Sunday. The Setters were 11-17 overall last season and 6-14 in Northeast-10 games, leaving them out of the 2015-16 postseason tournament. At the helm of 25-year head coach Carrie Seymour, the Setters have made five NCAA tournament appearances in the last ten years.
