Taurasi Leads Huskies to First Road Win of the Season



    RALEIGH, NC (Nov. 24) - Junior Diana Taurasi (Chino, CA) scored a team high 15 points, to go along with five rebounds and six assists, to lead Connecticut to a 78-50 victory over North Carolina State, in the Jimmy V Classic in Raleigh, NC.  Connecticut with the victory extends their winning streak to 41 games and moves to 2-0 on the season while the Wolfpack fall to 0-2.

    The Huskies scored on their first possession of the game and never looked back from there.  UConn behind outstanding team defense took control of the first half and took a 36-16 halftime lead.  Connecticut held North Carolina State to 23.1% (6-26) shooting from the field, while the Huskies continued to shoot well at 43.8% (14-32).

    UConn came out in the second half and put the Wolfpack away as they pushed out to a 61-29 lead with 7:42 left in the game.  Connecticut finished off North Carolina State from there with a 78-50 victory.  The Huskies continued there hot shooting tonight as they finished the game shooting 52.5% (31-59) from the field and held the Wolfpack to 31.7 % (19-60).

    Joining Taurasi in double figures were sophomore Ashley Battle (Pittsburgh, PA) with 11 and freshman Barbara Turner (Cleveland, OH) with a career high 13.  Freshmen Willnett Crockett (Harbor City, CA) and Ann Strother (Castle Rock, CO) led the Huskies on the boards with nine rebounds a piece. 

    North Carolina State was led by Kaayla Chones with 18 points and five rebounds.

    The Huskies continue their road trip as they travel to Honolulu, HI, for the Rainbow Wahine Classic.  Connecticut will play Denver on Friday, night November 29, at the Stan Sheriff Center, with tip-off set for midnight eastern time.
