Malibu, Calif. (December 5, 2003) Sophomore Barbara Turner tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds in notching the third double-double of her career to lead the No. 1/1 Connecticut womens basketball team to an 84-53 win over Pepperdine before a record crowd of 3,121 fans in Malibu.
The crowd marked the largest ever to see a Pepperdine womens basketball game at Firestone Fieldhouse.
With the win UConn improves to 5-0 while Pepperdine drops to 2-3 following the loss.
The Waves (2-3) opened a 15-9 lead over the initial 5:34 of the contest as they hit on 5-of-6 three-point attempts during the span.
Connecticut (5-0) weathered the storm before responding with a 25-0 run over the next 7:55 to take control.
Diana Taurasi finished with 17 points and eight rebounds and moved past Shea Ralph into sixth place on the Connecticut career scoring list with her current total of 1,691 points over 114 games.
Ann Strother posted 14 points while freshman Liz Sherwood added 10 to round out the Huskies double-figure scorers.
Shanell Law finished with 14 points and shot 4-of-8 from the three-point stripe to pace Pepperdine in the loss.
Connecticut shot 22-of-25 from the free throw line in the win and out-rebounded the Waves 50-33.
The Huskies close out their two-game west coast swing on Sunday when they face USC at the L.A. Sports Arena beginning at 5:00 p.m. (ET).
