Collier Brings Home Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore forward Napheesa Collier (O’Fallon, Mo.) was deemed the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. The previously No. 2 UConn women's basketball team claimed the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 poll after a perfect 3-0 week.

Collier averaged 21.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 76.9 percent (30-39) from the floor during a perfect 3-0 week for the Huskies, which included wins against two top-15 teams. 

Collier started the week with a 23-point effort in the Huskies’ win over Chattanooga on November 29.  She was 11-12 from the floor, snared four rebounds and dished-out four assists against zero turnovers against the Mocs.  She followed that with an 18-point, five-rebound, four-steal performance in the win over No. 15/14 DePaul on Thursday. 

The O’Fallon, Mo. native was 9-12 from the field in the win over the Blue Demons.  Collier concluded the week with 24 points on 10-15 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, two blocks and five steals in the win over No. 14/15 Texas on Sunday. 

Collier has now scored at least 20 points four times this season, is second on the squad at 19.0 points per game and leads the team with a 66.7 field goal percentage.

Up next, Collier and the rest of the Husky squad will travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on top-ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
