Junior guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson averaged 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 62.1 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc in a 2-0 week for the top-ranked UConn women’s basketball team.
The Huntington Beach, Calif. native earns the honor for the fourth time in her career and the first time this season.
Samuelson started the week with a 19-point, six-assist effort in the win over Oklahoma on December 19 as part of the Hall of Fame Women’s Holiday Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The win on Tuesday clinched head coach Geno Auriemma’s 1,000th career win.
She followed that up with a 33-point, six-rebound performance in the win over Duquesne on Friday evening in Toronto. The eight three-point field goals marked the third-highest single-game total in school history.
The Huskies are back in action on New Year’s Eve when the team welcomes Memphis to the XL Center for a 1:30 p.m. tip. The contest will be the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
