COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In a battle of the undefeated, the No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team will face No. 4 ranked Maryland on Thursday, Dec. 29 on the road at the XFINITY Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Thursday’s game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (11-0) is undefeated 6-0 against ranked opponents this year. The Huskies are coming off back-to-back wins against a pair of Big 10 opponents. After defeating No. 12 Ohio State at the XL Center on Dec. 19, UConn cruised past Nebraska 84-41 on the road on Dec. 21.
Sophomore guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent (8-17) from beyond the three-point arc in 34.0 minutes per game during the top-ranked Huskies’ 2-0 week.
UConn is undefeated 5-0 in the all-time series with the Terps. Of those five meetings, three have been at neutral sites, including the last two meetings in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The last time out, the Huskies and the Terps met on December 28, 2015 at Madison Square Garden where the Huskies won 83-73.
Maryland (12-0) has climbed its way up the top-10 national rankings after starting the season ranked No. 6/5 and is now No. 4/3 with a perfect 12-0 record. After playing three games in five days at home, the Terps are coming off two wins on the road, most recently a 77-57 victory at Duquesne. UConn will be the third ranked opponent Maryland will face this season.
