ORLANDO, Fla. – Coming off its seventh win against ranked opponents, the No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team opens its American Athletic Conference schedule with UCF on Sunday, Jan. 1 at CFE Arena. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.

Sunday’s matchup with the Knights will be televised regionally on SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.

The Huskies (12-0) extended their second-longest win streak in program history to 87 games after downing No. 4 Maryland 87-81 on Thursday. UConn dished out Maryland’s first loss of the season to remain undefeated 7-0 against ranked opponents.

Sophomore guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the way for the second-straight game with 23 points, 17 of which came in the second half.

Juniors Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ont.) and Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) both contributed double figures. Nurse finished second on the team with 19 points while Williams added 16 and was just one rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the season.

UConn is 4-0 all-time against UCF with all the matchups coming since the Huskies joined the American Athletic Conference prior to the 2013- 14 season. The Huskies and the Knights met in January of last season where UConn defeated UCF at home with a score of 106-51.

UCF (10-3) recently snapped its four-game win streak with a 77-71 loss to UC-Davis Wednesday. Senior Zykira Lewis, who led the team with 22 points against the Aggies, currently leads the Knights in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game.
