The victory also marked UConn head coach Nancy Stevens' 297th at UConn.

The score was the sophomore forward's seventh goal of the season as she drilled the ball into the net unassisted to give the Huskies the eventual game winner.

UConn goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero (Emmaus, Pa.) made six saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season.

The Huskies are now 4-1 against ranked teams this season and a perfect 2-0 against teams ranked among the top-10 nationally.

UConn won despite being out-shot 14-6 and attempting five penalty corners to Syracuse's 15.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Boston University in a 3:00 p.m. start.
