2011 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament: UConn vs. Penn State postgame quotes
UConn Head Coach Nancy Stevens
On Penn State's toughness:
"Statistically, the game was very close and that's a reflection of how hard-fought it was. Penn State has had an outstanding season, winning the Big Ten championship against two teams they lost to in the regular season. They have a very young team so they have to be so proud of their players."
On senior back Jestine Angelini (#28) (two goals):
"When she can contribute to the offense and anchor the defense, which brings us back to the days when football players used to play 60 minutes on offense and defense. That's unusual in sport. She adds to the offense and anchors the defense so she's invaluable to our program."
On their chances in the Final Four: "We have a one-in-four chance of winning the National Championship. I like those odds."
Penn State Head Coach Charlene Morett
On how close the game was:
"I thought it was a really good hockey game. It was a game of halves--we dominated the first half and they obviously had a better second half. We couldn't get any luck on our chances with an open net that we missed wide. Connecticut is a very good team and their corners are very dangerous. Once you get this far, every team is going to be a battle."
On the productivity of this season:
"We have a very, very young team so I'm pleased with getting them this experience. We were really close to getting to the Final Four with this young team, so there is some disappointment there. We'll be back."
