Head Coach Nancy Stevens

On immediate thoughts after the game:

“You know, I think we’re playing tournament field hockey because you want to get a shutout. If you go to the NCAA tournament and you’re not giving up goals, you’re not going to lose a game. Our priority always is to take great pride in our defense so I’m really happy with our defensive effort. It was an interesting today, usually our corner is our best offensive weapon. Today all three goals came from field play, Charlotte then a penalty stroke and Pippa just had a blistering shot. Really it’s just an exclamation point on the win. If our corners are really good tomorrow we can be really dangerous.”

On the physicality of the game

“We know Louisville is so well coached and they have very skilled players. When you’re very skilled you don’t have to be rough. We’ve played teams that just could not match up with our skill so they kind of resort to being rough. We had some incidents in the Big East Tournament where three of our players got hurt but we really feel Louisville is highly skilled. They don’t have to be physical. They played so well. They have a lot of talent.

On adjustments they need to make for tomorrow

“If I knew who we were playing I could tell you that. They’re very different. I don’t want to speak further, we’ll see who wins. They’re two entirely different game plans. Both teams are very good, we’re ready for either.”

Sophomore Forward Charlotte Veitner

On the defense today

“We’ve been really well connected and it just shows now that defense is all that matters. We don’t need to score a lot of goals, we can just focus on keeping a shutout.”

On does the offense feed off the defense

“It works either way. I don’t think there’s just offense off defense. It works both ways.”

On the physicality of the game

“Obviously if you go into a game now, you have to win it to stay in the tournament and if you lose your season’s over so I definitely think it’s a little more physical but that’s what we want. I don’t think it was too physical.”
