STORRS, Conn. – The Dec. 23 issue of Sports Illustrated includes a profile on UConn senior field hockey standout Marie Elena Bolles (Phoenixville, Pa.) as part of the magazine’s Faces in the Crowd section. The segment, which was first published in SI starting in 1956, highlights exceptional amateur athletes around the world for their accomplishments. Bolles’ appearance marks the third UConn field hockey player to earn the spotlight. In 2008 and 2009, Husky field hockey standouts Melissa Gonzalez and Loren Sherer received recognition in the section, respectively.
The issue, which hit newsstands in December, promotes Bolles’ impressive career on the UConn turf. Bolles will graduate with a well-established spot in the program’s record books. She ranks sixth on UConn’s all-time points list with 129, eighth on the career goals list with 47, and ninth on tied for ninth place with 35 assists. A stellar senior season in which she posted career numbers with 25 goals and 17 assists also saw her crowned a National Champion, National Player of the Year, First Team All-American, and Honda Award Winner in her final season at Connecticut.
