Field Hockey Inks Three Student-Athletes

Head coach Nancy Stevens and the Huskies will welcome three freshmen to Storrs in the fall of 2015.

STORRS, Conn. - After winning back-to-back national championships in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the University of Connecticut field hockey team announced its 2015 signing class on Wednesday. Three freshman, Amanda Collins, Amelia Iacobucci, and Haeli McCabe, will join a Husky squad that has compiled a 41-6 record over the last two seasons and taken home a pair of national titles.

Head coach Nancy Stevens, who was tabbed as the 2014 NFHCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year, guided the Huskies to their 14th Big East regular season title and 14th Big East tournament crown en route to defeating Syracuse, 1-0, in the NCAA DI Championship game in College Park, Md. in November.

Amanda Collins - Midfield/Forward - Binghamton, N.Y. - Vestal High School



Before UConn: Earned four varsity letters at Vestal High School under head coach Vicky Sax... Was a member of the USA Field Hockey U-17 junior national squad in 2013 and 2014... Competed in the 2013 and 2014 Future Elite Tournament... Served as team captain during the 2014 season at Vestal... Was selected as an NYS Section IV First Team All-Star in 2012 and 2014... Earned a NYC All-State nod in 2012 and 2014... Also played for the Southern Tier Storm field hockey club under coach Stephanie Collins... Participated in the 2012 Disney Field Hockey U-16 Showcase... A 2014 Shooting Star Team Champion.

Personal: Daughter of Jack Collins and Kimberly Snyder... Has one brother, Austin (11), and one sister, Ashley (23)... Also played basketball in high school during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, serving as team captain... Earned a spot on the academic high honor roll.

Amelia Iacobucci - Midfield/Forward - Malvern, Pa. - Villa Maria Academy

Before UConn: Most recently played at Villa Maria Academy under the direction of head coach Daan Polders... Tallied 77 career goals and dished out 91 assists during her high school career... Tabbed as a 2014 NFHCA All-American and was named to the PFHCA All-State First Team... Led her team to the PIAA AA State Championship in 2014 en route to being selected as a Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area First Team member... Posted a strong junior campaign, earning a spot on the Daily Local All-Area First Team and grabbing a NFHCA All-Region Second Team selection... Was placed on the 2012 PFHCA All-State second team and also earned a 2012 Catholic Academy All-Star nod. 

Personal: Daughter of Stephen and Andrea Iacobucci... Has two sisters, Annina (16) and Adele (14).... Undecided on a major... Also played lacrosse for three years in high school... earned academic distinguished honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Haeli McCabe - Defense - Kennett Square, Pa. - Kennett High School

Before UConn: A four-year letterwinner under head coach Meghan Shumway at Kennett High School... Named team MVP after both her freshman and sophomore seasons... Earned a spot on the All-Chesmont League second team following her sophomore campaign... Was named an All-Chesmont League honorable mention after her freshman campaign.

Personal: Daughter of Jeff McCabe and Vicky Wilson... Has one brother, Ryan (22)... Earned a varsity letter playing lacrosse in high school... A National Honors Society member... earned academic distinguished honors in her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
