STORRS, Conn. – Two UConn field hockey alum – Roisin Upton and Lindsey Howard – both continue to make names for themselves playing overseas for the Irish and Australian national teams, respectively.
Upton, a UConn graduate of 2016, helped the Irish national team to a decisive 12-0 victory over Kazakhstan in the first game of the 2017 Women Hockey World League Round 2, a qualifier for the World Cup.
A two-time First Team All-American as a Husky, Upton is part of Pool B with the Irish team that will play against Malaysia and Hong Kong in the coming days. In Pool A, it’s Italy, Singapore, Thailand and Wales.
The Irish team will play host Malaysia on Monday at 7:30 a.m. (EST), continuing its quest for a spot in the 2018 World Cup in London, England.
Howard, a 2009 graduate of UConn, was recently named to the 2018 women’s Indoor Hockey World Cup team for Australia – one of 40 players on the squad.
The Indoor Hockey World Cup will be played in February of 2018. It was back in May of 2016 that Howard earned the opportunity to compete with the 2016 Australian Women’s Indoor Hockey Squad.
Howard was a two-time All-Region selection as a Husky, and was named an All-Big East First Team member in 2008.
