Marie Elena Bolles heads to Australia with U.S. Junior Women

STORRS, Conn.- UConn junior Marie Elena Bolles is competing in the Youth Olympic Festival in Australia with the U.S. Junior Women’s Field Hockey team. Over 1,700 of the world’s best young athletes from 30 nations will compete in 17 Olympic sports in Sydney, Australia from January 16-20, 2013. The U.S. Junior Men’s and Women’s Field Hockey Squads will be amongst the 1,700 elite athletes competing at this year’s Youth Olympic Festival.
Field Hockey will be played at the Sydney Olympic Park with seven other sports, including: athletics, gymnastics, swimming, diving, hockey, badminton, judo and wrestling. The U.S. Junior Women will face China, Great Britain and Australia. The gold medal match will be played on the final day of competition on January 20.
Bolles, a 2012 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American Third Team selection, finished the year third on the team with 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points. She was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and scored one of her team-high tying six game-winning goals in the final second of the 2012 BIG EAST Championship Final to clinch the victory for the Huskies.
