STORRS, Conn. – Roisin Upton turned in her most impressive international effort to date on Thursday morning, posting a hat trick as part of the Irish national field hockey team’s 10-0 trouncing of Singapore in the World League 2 quarterfinals.
Just one day after scoring her first-career senior international goal, Upton netted three for the Green Army in its convincing victory – two of which came off penalty corners.
Ireland is one step closer to qualifying for World League Round 3 and will play Wales on Saturday in the semifinals at 5:15 a.m. (EST).
Wales finished second in Pool A, losing to Italy, but beating Singapore and Thailand in the group stage. It recently beat Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals, 2-1, to advance to semifinal action.
Upton, one of UConn’s all-time great field hockey players, scored 33 goals and racked up 41 assists (107 total points) in her collegiate career. As a sophomore, she accounted for 40 points, helping the Huskies to the 2013 NCAA title.
