Australian Women's Indoor Hockey on Facebook
STORRS, Conn. – Lindsey Howard, a former UConn field hockey standout, has been very busy over the past few weeks – traveling and playing across Europe for the Australian Women’s Indoor Hockey Team.
Recently, the Australian team has competed in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands as part of a European tour. Howard’s team has earned wins over Belgium, Essen (Germany) and Dusseldorf (Germany) throughout the trip.
The Australians finished up play in the Netherlands on Thursday, which coincidentally fell on Australia Day. The Dutch team helped the Australians celebrate, getting into the spirit of the trip by being good hosts to Howard and her team.
For Howard (Clarksburg, N.J.), who plays for the Queensland Scorchers in the Australian Hockey League (AHL), it is her first time on tour with Australian Women’s Indoor Hockey.
It’s been a busy stretch for Howard, but also a successful one, as the Scorchers took third place in the Open Indoor Australian Championships. Queensland is one-year removed from winning the title, by defeating New South Wales in Wollongong, Australia.
It was Queensland’s first senior women’s national indoor crown since 1995.
Howard, a 2009 UConn graduate, was part of four NCAA Tournament teams in Storrs – including two semifinal appearances in 2006 and 2007. She was All-Big East Second Team and All-Mideast Second Team in 2007.
