STORRS, Conn. –
As the 2018 Indoor Field Hockey World Cup commences in Germany this week, former University of Connecticut field hockey standout Lindsey Howard, formerly known as Leck, will represent Australia in their quest for the gold medal. The Indoor World Cup runs from February 7-11 at the Max-Schmeling-Hall in Berlin, Germany.

The Australia women’s team kicks off World Cup competition against Ukraine at 7 p.m. AEDT on Wednesday, Feb. 7. The Australians are ranked eighth in the women’s division and will be pooled against Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Namibia and Russia.

Oceania champions Australia have a solid history at Indoor Hockey World Cup events in the women’s division, most recently turning in a sixth place finish in Vienna in 2007.

Howard hopes to continue her success for Australia after being tabbed the 2016 Brisbane Women’s Hockey Associate Division 1 Player of the Year. Additionally in 2013, she helped the Queensland Scorchers of the Australian Hockey League (AHL) win the league championship for the first time in eight years.

An All-BIG EAST First Team member in 2008, Howard was a two-time All-Region selection during her time with the Huskies. She was also named All-Conference Second Team in her junior season, when she accounted for four game-winning goals throughout the season.

Originally from New Jersey, the former Husky helped the program to three consecutive BIG EAST Championships (2005, ‘06 and ‘07), reach one NCAA Quarterfinals (2005) and two NCAA Semifinal appearances (2006, ’07). UConn achieved a 77-17 mark throughout Howard’s four years.

All games will be live on the FIH YouTube Channel.
