Six Huskies Earn National Academic Honor

Silverman was one of six Huskies named to the squad.

STORRS, Conn, - Allison Angulo, Vicky Arthur, Rayell Heistand, Lindsay Kissinger, Erin Koonz and Cara Silverman have each been honored as members of the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Academic Squad as announced by the NFHCA on Thursday. All six Huskies achieved at least a 3.3 GPA during the 2011 fall semester.

Angulo started all 22 games for the Huskies and anchored a UConn defense that was one of the stingiest in the country. Angulo, who netted one goal and posted 11 assists for 13 points in 2011, was also selected to the All-Academic squad in 2009.

Heistand was honored as a Second Team pick for the second-straight season. Heistand was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection in each of the last two seasons and was the 2011 Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Heistand is a three-time All-Mideast Region selection.

Kissinger started seven times and saw the field in 22 games. She scored one goal in 2011 for Connecticut.

Silverman scored five goals, including three game-winners, and added two assists for the Huskies. She was an All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Mideast Region selection in 2010.

Koonz and Arthur combined to play in 22 games for Connecticut, tallying one goal and one assist.
