STORRS, Conn. –
Four-straight trips to the NCAA Final Four and two national titles since 2013 is a great achievement for UConn field hockey, but the team’s performance off the field is just as impressive.

On Wednesday, the Huskies earned recognition by being named a Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team selection for their outstanding work in the classroom.

One of 76 squads to receive the honor, UConn achieved a cumulative team mark of above a 3.0 GPA (3.332) for the 2016 fall semester – even in the midst of winning its fifth-straight Big East Championship and reaching the NCAA semifinals.

UConn had 15 players on the roster earn a 3.0 GPA or higher in the fall semester, including two 4.0 students, on its way to the academic award.

Next Wednesday, more academic recognition will be awarded as the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and Scholars of Distinction will be announced.
