STORRS, Conn. – The spring season rolls on for the UConn field hockey team this weekend, as Quinnipiac visits the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on Sunday for a scrimmage against the Huskies at 11 a.m. (ET).
Coming off a strong performance at the UMass Indoor Tournament on March 4, the Huskies will host three exhibitions over the next month in Storrs against Quinnipiac, UMass and Boston College.
“We are looking forward to building on our success from the UMass Indoor Tournament, where we defeated Syracuse, 4-1, in the championship game,” said head coach Nancy Stevens. “Transitioning to outdoor hockey this weekend will help us prepare for the 2017 season.”
The Huskies won their fifth-straight Big East Tournament championship and reached their fourth-consecutive NCAA Final Four this past fall. The spring season allows good practice opportunities before summer break.
“Our younger players are gaining valuable experience this spring,” said Stevens. UConn had three of its five true freshmen make significant contributions on the field in 2016, as the upcoming exhibitions will provide them even more playing time.
The UConn-Quinnipiac scrimmage will begin at 11 a.m., with the game format still to be decided. In the coming weeks, the Huskies will host UMass on Sunday, April 2 and Boston College on Saturday, April 22.
