YWNC Results | National Camp Announcement
STORRS, Conn. – Just as Amanda Collins, Karlie Heistand, Amelia Iacobucci and Casey Umstead were completing play at the Young Women’s National Championship in Lancaster, Pa. this past weekend, the UConn field hockey foursome earned more recognition.
Each of the four Huskies were invited to participate in the 2017 U-21 Junior and Development Squad National Camp, which is currently taking place at Spooky Nook Sports. All four were invited immediately following the YWNC.
Collins and Iacobucci will play with the U-21 Junior National Camp, while Heistand and Umstead will be part of the Development Squad National Camp. The training session runs from June 17-20.
It is the latest of the USA Field Hockey accomplishments for these UConn players, who all competed in the YWNC from June 12-16. Collins and Umstead played with the U.S. U-21 Team, while Heistand was with the U.S. Development Squad and Iacobucci with USA Freedom.
The YWNC is a high-level, international structured competition, which serves as a selection opportunity for the 2017-18 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team, U.S. Women’s National Development Squad and U.S. Women’s National Team.
The U-21 and Development teams each finished with seven points (two wins, one draw), placing atop of Pool A. Collins and Umstead’s squad defeated Heistand’s on Friday, 3-2, earning the tiebreaker advantage.
USA Freedom finished with three points (one won, two losses), falling to both U.S. U-21 and the Development Squad in pool play.
A busy summer for Team USA culminates in the World League Semifinals in Johannesburg, South Africa from July 8-23, before the Pan American Cup takes place in Lancaster from August 4-13.
Collins, Heistand, Iacobucci and Umstead are each embedded in the USA Field Hockey pipeline, as they try to join former UConn standout Melissa Gonzalez one day as a member of the USWNT.
