STORRS, Conn. – 2011 University of Connecticut field hockey graduate Melissa Gonzalez reached a significant milestone on Saturday as she earned her 100th cap with the United States National Team during Team USA’s match against Argentina during the Investec Hockey World League Semifinal in London.
A cap is earned each time a player takes the field for her national team.
“Playing for my country is a complete honor,” said Gonzalez. “To put on a jersey a hundred times, step on the field and compete with my teammates is something I cherish, value, and never take for granted. I am so grateful to be a part of this team and am grateful to be given the opportunity to play alongside and against the best of the best.”
Gonzalez is one of only six players, currently on Team USA, with at least 100 caps to her name.
