LANCASTER, Pa. – UConn field hockey rising sophomore Karlie Heistand (Hamburg, Pa.) was selected as one of 44 athletes from around the nation to attend the U21 USA Field Hockey Junior National Camp on June 30-July 2 at Spooky Nook Complex in Lancaster, Pa.
The Junior National Camp is the premier camp for Under-21 athletes, comprised of the top athletes selected from the National Futures and Futures Elite Championship. Based on their performances from the camp, athletes may earn selection to additional USA Field Hockey programs including the Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 Junior National Teams.
Heistand also competed with the U21 squad when it challenged Canada four times over a five-day stretch between Feb. 12-16,
On the pitch in 2014, Heistand earned 15 starts and saw action in 22 contests, helping the Huskies win their final 14 games of the season. She notched her first collegiate point with an assist in the NCAA Tournament in a 6-1 Husky victory over Kent St. at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
Heistand and her teammates will begin a quest for the Huskies’ third-straight NCAA Division I title when they open the 2015 campaign on Aug. 28 at Northwestern. The upcoming fall slate features 19 total games, including 11 contests at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on the Storrs campus.
Additionally, the Huskies will square off against five teams that played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament and seven opponents that finished in the top-20 of the final NFHCA Coaches' Poll (Nov. 11).
