Field Hockey Introduces Freshman Class

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut field hockey team and head coach Nancy Stevens have announced the addition of five incoming freshmen to the 2016 roster, making up the Class of 2020 for the Huskies.

Winners of two of the past three NCAA National Championships, as well as a 2015 NCAA Semifinalist, UConn welcomes Svea Boker, Kita Konerth, Abby Lucas, Antonia Tiedtke and Barbara van den Hoogen to Storrs.

Three members of the incoming class are from overseas, hailing from Germany and the Netherlands - expanding UConn's field hockey thumbprint. Six players on the current roster, including reigning First Team All-American Charlotte Veitner, are from foreign countries.

Within the Class of 2020 includes national team members, team captains, champions, a Junior Olympics participant and a multi-sport athlete. Read more about the incoming freshmen below:



Svea Boker - #22

Position: Forward

Hometown: Bremen, Germany

High School/Previous School: Oberschule an der Ronzelenstraße

Intended Major: Engineering

Notable Accomplishments: Participated on the U-16 German National Team...Scored four goals in 10 matches played...Helped team achieve third place in the 2013 German National Championship.


Kita Konerth - #52

Position: Goalkeeper

Hometown: Huntingtown, Md.

High School/Previous School: The Madeira School

Intended Major: Animal Science

Notable Accomplishments: Four-year varsity letterwinner at The Madeira School...Named captain in 2015...All-Metropolitan Area Honorable Mention in 2015...All-Independent School League in 2014 and 2015...Futures Elite participant in 2014 and 2015...Participated in the National Futures Championship from 2013 to 2015...Played in the Junior Olympics in 2014 in Texas.


Abby Lucas - #47

Position: Goalkeeper

Hometown: Auburn, Mass.

High School/Previous School: Auburn High School

Intended Major: Exercise Science

Notable Accomplishments: Three-sport athlete at Auburn HS...Four-year letterwinner in field hockey...Served as captain in senior year...Named Worcester Telegram and Gazette All-Star, as well as SWCL All-Star...Team had record of 63-6-3 in her career...Three-time SWCL champions...Three-time Massachusetts Central-West Champions...Three-time state finalists...Earned four letters as a softball player...Named softball captain in her senior season...Chosen as SWCL All-Star...Three-year letterwinner in basketball.


Antonia Tiedtke - #20

Position: Midfield/Forward

Hometown: Frankfurt, Germany

High School/Previous School: Carl-Schurz-Schule

Intended Major: Undecided

Notable Accomplishments: Helped U18 team wins first in the 2016 Women's Indoor Championships, as well as second in Bundesliga (South)...Won third place in the Women's Indoor and first in the Bundesliga in 2015...U18 State of Hesse Champion in 2015...U16 State of Hesse Champion in 2014...First place in the U16 Regional Championship...Fourth place at the U16 National Championships and fifth place at the U16 National Championships with All-Star State Team...Captain of U16 All-Star State Team.


Barbara van den Hoogen - #6

Position: Midfield

Hometown: Nijmegen, Netherlands

High School/Previous School: Cansius College

Intended Major: Undecided

Notable Accomplishments: Competed for NMHC Nijmegen club team for 12 years...Played from 2010 to 2014 in the highest national league in the Netherlands... Served as team captain three times...Helped record team championships in 2012 and 2014...Made an early upcoming in the first women's team of NMHC Nijmegen in 2015... Placed second with the first women's team in the national league in the Netherlands in 2016.
