Roisin Upton and Ireland look to make a splash at the 2014 EuroHockey Junior Championship.

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut standout Roisin Upton (Limerick, Ireland) and the Irish U-21 National Team will open up play in the 2014 EuroHockey Junior Championship this week. Upton, who will be entering her junior season for the Huskies in 2014, was previously named as a team captain for Ireland.
Ireland has been placed in Pool C and will open up play against Lithuania on July 15 before challenging Scotland on July 16.
Upton enjoyed a breakout sophomore season on the pitch in 2013, grabbing a Second Team All-America nod. In addition to providing a solid presence in the defensive effort, Upton exploded for 40 points to finish second on the team in scoring en route to a 2013 All- Big East First Team selection. Upton paced the Husky squad with 16 assists, including two assists in the NCAA Tournament to earn a place on the All-Tournament team.
The Limerick, Ireland native recorded at least one goal in nine of UConn’s 25 contests, highlighted be a six-point game against Boston University on Oct. 13. Upton and the Huskies will take on Northwestern when they open up the 2014 season on Aug. 31 at 12 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
