TORONTO - Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and the U.S. Women's National Team are heading into the quarterfinals of the Pan American Games in Toronto after a commanding 12-0 win over Cuba on Friday. With the victory, Team USA currently leads Pool B and will face the Dominican Republic on July 20.

Team USA finished with nine points and an unbeaten record after a 5-0 triumph over Uruguay along with a 2-0 win over Chile. Gonzalez has played in every game for Team USA thus far during the Pan Am Games and posted her first two goals of the tournament in last week's game against Cuba.

As a husky, Gonzalez was a two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year. She also competed with Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics. During her time in Storrs, her efforts helped the Huskies earn berths in four NCAA Tournaments and advance to the 2007 National Semifinals and 2010 Quarterfinals. Gonzalez racked up 27 goals and 14 assists for 68 total points in her UConn career. The New York native owns 126 caps with Team USA after solidifying her spot on the National Team in 2010.
