July 31, 2014

NEW YORK - The Big East Conference has announced that 14 members of the 2013 Field Hockey squad were placed on the conference's 2013-14 All-Academic Team on Thursday morning. 2,091 honorees from 10 member institutions and five affiliates were recognized by the conference.

Marie Elena Bolles, Sophie Bowden, Shannon Creghan, Chrissy Davidson, Casey Higgins, Anne Jeute, Nina Klein, Efthimia Kutrubis, Anna Middendorf, Megan Palmisano, Jamie Schlotterer, Mckenzie Townsend, Roisin Upton and Emily Walsh were honored by the league for their excellent academic performances.

Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each institution. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a Big East-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

The nominations are reviewed and approved by the Big East Academic Affairs Committee.

Bolles, Davidson, Klein, Kubtrubis, Middendorf and Palmisano were all recognized as members of the Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Academic Squad earlier this year.

The Huskies will open up the 2014 campaign in just over four weeks when they host Northwestern at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on Aug. 31 at noon. To keep up with the team during the preseason, follow @UConnFHockey on twitter.
