CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three University of Connecticut field hockey team members are playing crucial roles for their sides at the 2009 Junior World Cup, which is being held at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
Junior Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) started for the U.S. in each of its opening games, the first a 3-1 victory over Belarus on Sunday before falling in a 2-1 heartbreaker to Australia on Tuesday.
UConn sophomore Rayell Heistand (Hamburg, Pa.) is also a member of the U.S. Junior World Cup squad.
In addition, incoming UConn senior Loren Sherer (Essex, England) also started for England in each of its opening two contests, a 5-0 win over France and a 2-2 draw with Korea.
The U.S. will return to action on Thursday when it faces India, while England will battle Chile.
