The Huskies, who reached the NCAA Semifinals in 2015, recorded 49 points and received seven first-place votes in the poll. Liberty, a new addition to the Big East, finished second with 40 points and one first-place votes.

In addition, four UConn players were selected to the Preseason All-Big East Team – senior Anna Middendorf, juniors Charlotte Veitner and Casey Umstead, and redshirt-junior Nina Klein.

For the second consecutive season, Veitner was tabbed as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, following her sensational 2015 campaign. Middendorf was named Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year, along with Liberty’s Serena Barr.

Veitner was named First Team All-American and the Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 2015, leading the nation in goals (39), assists (21) and points (99). She is currently sixth on UConn’s all-time points list (147).
