Huskies Picked No. 6 in 2012 Penn Moto/NFHCA Preseason Poll

STORRS, Conn. –Connecticut field hockey was picked to finish sixth in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies concluded the 2011 campaign with a 19-3 overall mark reaching the national semifinal game. UConn added its 12th BIG EAST regular season title to its list with a perfect 6-0 record in conference action.

The Huskies were the top BIG EAST squad in this year’s preseason poll as they received 565 votes with league opponent Syracuse finishing seventh with 559 points. Defending national champions Maryland was named to the top seat with 815 points and 17 first place votes and North Carolina was selected second with 799 points and 15 first place votes.

UConn will open the 2012 season on Saturday, August 25, when the Huskies host Bucknell in Storrs, Conn. at noon.
