Chrissy Davidson will serve as one of two UConn captains in 2014.
STORRS, Conn. – University of Connecticut field hockey head coach Nancy Stevens announced on Friday that Roisin Upton (Limerick, Ireland) and Chrissy Davidson (West Lawn, Pa.) will serve as team captains for the 2014 season.
Both upperclassmen have been busy over the summer with Davidson earning a spot on Team USA’s 30-player roster and Upton competing with the Irish U-21 National Team at the 2014 EuroHockey Junior Championship in mid-July.
Upton will enter her junior campaign after breakout sophomore season on the pitch in 2013, during which she grabbed a Second Team All-America nod. In addition to providing a solid presence in the defensive effort, Upton exploded for 40 points to finish second on the team in scoring en route to a 2013 All- Big East First Team selection. The midfielder paced the Husky squad with 16 assists, including two helpers in the NCAA Tournament to earn a place on the All-Tournament team.
Davidson, one of four Huskies to make the Team USA squad, is entering her final season in 2014. The midfielder tied for third on the team with 12 assists last season and was tabbed as a NFHCA Mideast Regional Second Team Member. Davidson was also placed on the All-Big East Second Team. She dished out at least one assist in eight of UConn's 25 games and finished fourth in the conference with a 0.57 assist per game mark.
UConn, which was tabbed as the Big East favorite earlier this week, will host the Rye Field Hockey club on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in its lone exhibition game before welcoming Northwestern to Storrs for the season-opener on Aug. 31 at noon.
