STORRS, Conn. – Senior Charlotte Veinter has been tabbed the Longstreth/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Offensive Player of the Week, following a 10 point performance (5g) in a 2-0 week for the No. 1 UConn field hockey team.
The honor marks Veitner’s first of the season after garnering a BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week distinction on Monday. The Huskies own a 5-0 clip in 2017, including a 4-0 mark against top-20 opponents. UConn is one of four teams in DI with an unblemished record thus far.
The senior was the fuel behind the Huskies 6-2 win against Pacific on Friday night, notching four goals on the way to recording her first hat trick of the year. The forward posted the squad’s first two goals of the contest, providing the team with a 2-1 first-half lead. Veitner continued to shine throughout the tilt, adding two insurance goals for UConn to grab her third and four tally of the game, respectively.
In a 3-1 road win against No. 18 Harvard, Veitner capped of her dominating week with an insurance goal in the 33rd minute.
The senior’s 1.20 goals per game rank fourth in the NCAA, while her 13 points and six goals headline the Huskies offense. As a team, UConn is averaging 4.00 goals per game to sit fifth amongst all DI programs. Additionally, the Huskies are outscoring their opponents 20-4 this fall.
UConn opens conference play next week with a home tilt against BIG EAST foe Old Dominion on Friday, Sept. 15. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sherman Family Complex.
