Sept. 19, 2012
STORRS, Conn. -The University of Connecticut field hockey team is ranked No. 1 in the debut of the 2012 Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, September 18. Connecticut has also moved up to No. 5 in the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association national poll.
The Huskies enter this weekend's contests with a perfect 7-0 record and are off to their best start since the 2009 season, when UConn started that year with 11-straight victories. UConn's all-time best start was in 1999 when the team won its first 23-games of the season.
The Huskies have won those seven games against a very tough schedule as the team already has wins over No. 9 Penn State, No. 15 Michigan and at No. 21 Albany. The Huskies boast the country's best defense as the team has allowed only three goals in seven games this season.
The Huskies have eight of the nation's top-25 teams on their schedule this season, including a game at No.19 Villanova on Sunday in Philadelphia.
