NEW YORK -- Freshman forward Amanda Collins (Binghamton, N.Y.) of UConn's field hockey team received her first conference honors as a Husky, being named the Big East Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

Collins recorded her first career hat trick along with two assists to help the Huskies to an 8-0 victory over Lafayette on Sunday. The first tally came after she dribbled around the Leopard's defense and slid the ball in the left corner of the cage. Two minutes later, junior Anna Middendorf's (Bremen, Germany) shot rebounded off the goalies' shin, which Collins caught and flicked into the net. The rookie completed her hat trick after sophomore Charlotte Veitner (Dusseldorf, Germany) crossed the ball in front of the goal for Collins to tip in.

The Binghamton, N.Y. native also lent a helping hand in two goals for the Huskies after she dropped off the ball for the scores.

Through seven games, Collins is second on the team with 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists). She ranks second in the Big East in assists and third in points.

Along with assisting Collins, Veitner set up two penalty corners that resulted in goals by Middendorf and senior Roisin Upton (Limerick, Ireland), earning her a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. She also added a goal of her own.

The Huskies will continue their homestand on Friday, Sept. 25 when they host Stanford at 6 p.m.
