Field Hockey Rated No. 1 in First Edition of RPI

Chrissy Davidson and the Huskies are ranked No. 1 in the RPI.

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut field hockey team is ranked No. 1 in the first edition of the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.  UConn which is ranked No. 3 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll, was rated No. 1 by the RPI for two weeks last season.

At 7-0, the Huskies are one of four remaining unbeatens in the country along with Maryland, North Carolina and Albany.  The Terps and Tar Heels are right behind UConn in the RPI, followed by Penn State and Virginia. 

Connecticut is 3-0 already against the RPI top-11 with wins at Stanford and Penn State and a victory over UMass in Storrs. 

The Huskies return home this weekend for a pair of games in Storrs.  UConn will take on Villanova on Saturday at 12 p.m. and Princeton on Sunday at 2 p.m.  All action takes place at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.  

Princeton, the defending national champion, comes into the contest rated No. 12 in the RPI while Villanova is No. 57.
