STORRS, Conn. –
One month into the season, UConn field hockey remains the only undefeated team in Division I – and with the distinction comes the No. 1 ranking in this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll.

Following the losses of No. 1 Syracuse and No. 2 Duke this past weekend, the Huskies (9-0, 2-0 Big East) propelled from the third to first with 860 points and 14 first-place votes. It is the first time since early October of 2015 that UConn has been No. 1 in the poll.

North Carolina jumped three spots to No. 2 after beating the Orange and Blue Devils in the same weekend. The Tar Heels finished one-point shy of the Huskies with 859 total and 18 first-place votes. Duke, Syracuse and Penn State round-out the top five.

UConn is coming off a home win against Big East opponent Temple on Friday, 6-0, and a dominant 5-1 win against No. 9 Boston University on the road.

On Monday, juniors Charlotte Veitner and Casey Umstead were named Big East Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. It is the second conference award of the season for both players.

The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday to host UMass at 4 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. A road game at Providence on Friday at 5 p.m. will then close out the week.
