GILBERT, Ariz. - Senior defender Casey Umstead was named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Honorable Mention following a two-point performance in a 2-0 week for the No. 1 UConn field hock team, as announce on Wednesday.
Umstead paced a Huskies defense that allowed just one goal and 10 shots in two games last week. After defeating conference foe Temple, 4-1, on Friday, UConn blanked then-No.5 Delaware, 1-0, in an overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon. Offensively, Umstead notched a goal in the victory at Temple for her 15th point (5g, 5a) on the season.
The Huskies are currently riding a nine-game win streak, spanning from Aug. 25- Sept. 24. UConn remains the only undefeated team in DI, while outscoring its opponents, 39-6 this fall. The program is off to an impressive 9-0 start and owns a 6-0 clip against top-20 opponents.
This marks the second honorable mention selection for Umstead, who garnered her first honor earlier this year. After notching three points in two wins against a pair of top-20 opponents, Umstead earned honorable mention status on Aug. 30.
