STORRS, Conn. - Junior Charlotte Veitner continues to be on the cusp of breaking UConn field hockey career records, and on top of that, she was a television star early on Thursday morning.
After scoring four goals and recording an assist in an 8-1 win over UMass, one of her goals was presented on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays, after it was filmed by WFSB's John Holt on Wednesday afternoon.
Veitner, a two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Week this season, can be seen weaving in and out of traffic through the UMass defense, before firing a reverse shot to the upper left corner of the cage.
It is just a small taste of what the junior forward has done for the top-ranked Huskies in their undefeated start. Back on Sept. 18, Veitner scored a program-record six goals against then-No. 14 Virginia as part of an 8-0 win.
Veitner is second on UConn's all-time points list with 187 before Friday's matchup with Providence at 5 p.m. (ET). She is just 27 points away from passing Lauren Henderson for the most-ever.
On the all-time goals list, she is 24 away from tying the record and she is just five assists away from tying the program-high. In just her third season with the Huskies, the Dusseldorf, Germany native is close to becoming the most prolific scorer in UConn history.
Veitner has 16 goals and eight assists this season, totaling 40 points through the first 10 games. She is leading Division I in goals per game (1.60) and points per game (4.00).
No. 1 UConn (10-0, 2-0 Big East), the only undefeated team left in Division I, plays the Friars today in Big East action.
